6.        A new project in start-up phase: The Innovation LAB

The past months Enviu started a new project: The innovation LAB. The main focus of the I-lab is to inspire young entrepreneurs to develop innovative business solutions for environmental and social issues; from WOW! ideas to start-up. I- lab will have it’s own think tank center in a 3000 m2 ware house at the Stadshaven.

Oriol Pascual has recently joined Enviu as Business Developer for the upcoming Innovation Lab. The main focus of Enviu Innovation Lab is to inspire young entrepreneurs to develop innovative business solutions for environmental and social issues; at the Lab we facilitate the process from a WOW! Idea to business start-up. Additionally, the Innovation Lab will include an internal trend watching unit that aims to identify opportunities in the field of issue-driven entrepreneurship. All this will happen in a 3000 m2 warehouse at Rotterdam’s Stadshaven. In the meantime, Oriol is building relationships with various other innovation labs with the aim to launch this summer NEXT Europe, a network of cities leading in innovation.
 

Oriol is also busy developing the business plan for the lab. This task is done in collaboration with Enviu’s staff and a group of young professional volunteers, which, amongst others, have decided to focus the activities of the lab in the following areas:

1. Energy: Energy generation, storage, & consumption. Solar, H2, human power, biogas, CO2.

2. Mobility: Individual & collective systems. Improving current mobility systems and /or fulfilling uncovered needs.

3. Materials & local crafts: Use of traditional manufacturing techniques, bringing traditional materials to high-end markets.

4. Services: finance and consulting

5. Sustainable Lifestyle: greening your daily activities (i.e. fashion, clubbing, health & safety)

6. Computing: reducing the digital gap by providing meaningful solutions for specific needs.

7. Quality of Life: in relation to economic and social aspects of communities quality of life.
