7. Enviu helping make Rotterdam more sustainable in two new projects

Rotterdam Festivals

For the municipality of Rotterdam, Enviu is currently carrying out a new and exciting project. The main goal of the project is to advice the municipality on how to make various events, already here to trigger attention in Rotterdam more sustainable. This will contribute to the aim of the city to become a leader in organizing sustainable events in the Netherlands.

The advice of Enviu will be given on different levels, mainly being: mobility, water, waste and energy. Various events will be involved, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Summer Carnaval and Camping Rotterdam.

As part of this project, various activities will be carried out during the coming months:

  • Research on the current impact of events and how this could be improved. Internship- and thesis students will involved in this research.

  • Idea generation on how to make events more sustainable. By organizing brainstorms and involving student teams of both universities and higher education institutes in Rotterdam some inspiring and feasible ideas will come forward.

Various people will be involved such as; the organizers and entrepreneurs of the festivals, students of various disciplines and young professionals.

If you want to obtain more information on this project or want to become involved (as a student, young professional or volunteer), but also when you simply have a great idea, please contact Marieke den Nijs: marieke@enviu.org.

Rotterdam Port

Another more local project that Enviu has been recruited for is to make the Port of Rotterdam more sustainable. Enviu is working with the Port Authority of Rotterdam on two projects:

  • facilitation of the development and implementation of an internal idea competition to scout for ideas for the best port of the world, which is of course sustainable!

  • the development of a plan to organise an innovation battle to scout WOW! ideas amongst young entrepreneurial people for a sustainable Rotterdam and Port.
