Driving change with endless positive energy
Rubie’s interest in impact-driven entrepreneurship was born during her 4000km long bicycle trip through South America in 2012. During this trip she was enchanted by the beauty of nature on the one hand, but shocked by the pollution associated with modern production and consumption patterns on the other hand. Modernization can be done in a better way she thought! She found many inspiring enterprises that proved that economic gains can go hand in hand with ecological and social gains, and thereby create a modern society in which she believes!
Rubie works on the circularity domain. Rubie believes that impact- entrepreneurs are the change-makers of today. They turn societal and environmental problems into business opportunities. One of the things she wishes to do at Enviu is to unleash the potential of informal sectors and let them contributie to realizing circular economies in low income countries. Rubie is a creative system thinker, but also has a practical entrepreneurial mind set. She is result-oriented, energetic, social and highly engaged.
Rubie has graduated in both political science (UVA) and environmental sciences (WUR). She conducted research on informal recycling sectors in Uganda, and did research on plastic food packaging at FAO. Next to her analytical studies, she attained courses on economics and entrepreneurship in minors and during the Master Label of Climate-KIC. As a freelancer she advised multiple social enterprises on circularity, sustainability, new business models and CSR. Rubie is also member of the national transition team for a circular economy to develop a public-private agenda for a circular plastics economy. All this made her elected as 1 of the 100 most sustainable youngsters in The Netherlands in 2017.
